Ballot measure for recreational cannabis in Missouri claims 200,000+ signatures

Ballot measure for recreational cannabis in Missouri claims 200,000+ signatures

Cannabis advocates in Missouri who want the state to become the next to legalize cannabis for adult use have reached a new milestone in their ballot drive with two weeks to spare. Legal Missouri 2022, a group petitioning to put recreational cannabis on the ballot, announced that it collected more than 200,000 voter signatures to date as outreach efforts escalate ahead of the May 8 signature submission deadline. John Payne, Legal Missouri’s campaign manager, said that the efforts are going well and are getting around 9,000 new signatures per day with the aim to collect even more before the deadline. The ballot initiative has raised $1,433,927.10 in total since its launch in 2021 with the vast majority of funds coming from Missouri cannabis companies. New Approach Advocacy Fund is the largest contributor so far, donating $300,000 in total, with BD Ventures, which owns Flora Farms, New Growth Horizon, and the Proper brand, all donating $215,000 each in total coming in second. “I think this will help the industry grow and give great opportunities in Missouri in many ways,” Payne said. “1 out of 10 new jobs since 2020 were in the medical [cannabis] industry.

Raleigh N.C. Bank Tries To Carve Niche In Serving Cannabis Industry

Raleigh N.C. Bank Tries To Carve Niche In Serving Cannabis Industry

North Carolina is one of 13 states that have no legal avenue for the use of medical marijuana, much less the sale and distribution of recreational cannabis. That hasn’t deterred a 100-year-old Raleigh bank, West Town Bank & Trust, from launching last week a dedicated cannabis/CBD banking program that officials believe will have national appeal. The program represents an extension of the bank’s mission “to make financial services more accessible to emerging and underserved industries.” “As one of the first banks to roll out a hemp banking program (in 2019) after the 2018 (federal) Farm Bill, we witnessed first-hand the role dedicated banking programs played in advancing the entire industry,” Ross Sloan, West Town’s senior vice president of Hemp & Cannabis Banking, said in a news release Wednesday.

Cleveland to Expunge Cannabis Convictions

Cleveland to Expunge Cannabis Convictions

Officials with the city of Cleveland have filed motions to expunge cannabis convictions of more than 4,000 people. The convictions are for possession of 20 grams or less, dating back to 2017. If considered a minor misdemeanor, cannabis possession won’t create a criminal record. Located in Ohio, cannabis in Cleaveland remains illegal. However, like elsewhere in the US, the laws are blurring and turning grey. In 2020, Cleveland City Council effectively decriminalized cannabis, paving the way to expunging cannabis convictions. While federal and state laws still apply, in the city of Cleveland there is no local penalty for possession of cannabis under 200 grams. The local legislation ensured that low-level cannabis convictions wouldn’t carry a criminal record. Nor do the convicted need to disclose this charge on applications for jobs or licenses. Ohio’s Road to Legalization Cleveland isn’t the only city in Ohio to decriminalize small amounts of cannabis. Everywhere from major metropolises like Columbus and Cincinnati to towns of 500 people like Trimble or Adena. If you’re caught with less than 200 grams, there is no misdemeanor charge. And now Cleveland residents will have the opportunity to expunge their cannabis records.

South Africa approves first legal cannabis pharmacy

South Africa approves first legal cannabis pharmacy

South Africa has given the green light for the operation of the first legal cannabis pharmacy within its boundaries. This unmatched launch follows the Decriminalisation of cannabis in South Africa in 2018. According to a report by The Sunday Times, THC Pharmacy is South Africa’s first legal cannabis pharmacy. The pharmacy supplies card-carrying medicinal cannabis users and is registered with the South African Pharmacy Council and the health department. According to THC Africa CEO Kyle Brocklebank, the pharmacy is located in Glenanda, Johannesburg. It supplies two others, CBD Hub in Meyerton, Gauteng, and CBD Emporium in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal. The doctor assists with applying for medical cards, while a chef shows users how to use the herb in cooking.“So far the pharmacy has sold more than 3kg of the dried medical flowers. It is slow because each card only allows for 120g per person a month, which is 4g a day for 30 days. We’re aiming for around 500 card-carrying members, where we will see around 30kg-50kg of product sold per month,” Brocklebank said.

Despite Falling Stock Prices, Cannabis Leaders Are Optimistic

Despite Falling Stock Prices, Cannabis Leaders Are Optimistic

Cannabis investors have seen stock prices tumble even as cannabis companies report increasing sales. Green Market Report recently asked some leaders in the cannabis industry how they felt about the market in general despite the market pessimism. Brandon Pollock, CEO and Co-founder of Theory Wellness Theory Wellness, Inc. is an independently owned and operated vertically integrated cannabis brand. The company operates retail, cultivation, and product manufacturing across Massachusetts and Maine, including the cannabis-infused seltzer brand Hi5. Leading analysts have recently projected reduced short-term cannabis industry growth, with a less than optimistic outlook for federal reform. Do you agree with this projection? From our view, no, we feel as optimistic as ever about the growth and future of regulated cannabis and have no concerns about the trajectory of the market. In our view, stock market prices are not a good indication of actual on-the-ground performance and the expectations of many independent operators. Especially on the East Coast, we’re expecting explosive growth in the next few years as New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut implements adult-use sales.

US cannabis firm to light up Thai weed scene

US cannabis firm to light up Thai weed scene

A Las Vegas-based cannabis company has become the first foreign franchise to jointly open a medical marijuana clinic in Thailand, treating Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, cancer, eating disorders, and insomnia in Bangkok’s flashy tourist zone. “I hope that Thailand becomes the Silicon Valley of cannabis for Asia,” the clinic’s Thai partner Julpas Kruesopon – “or as most people in Thailand call me now, ‘Mister Weed,’” said in an interview. “I welcome Israeli companies. I welcome European companies. The key is to grow the industry,” Julpas said. Their Herbidus Medical Center opened on March 7 along Bangkok’s main Sukhumvit Road, which is lined with restaurants, hotels, massage parlors, sex bars, and extravagant shopping malls amid exotic sleaze and 5-star venues. The US-Thai joint venture “makes us, to the best of our knowledge, the first international company with an operational presence in the Asian legal cannabis market,” Audacious CEO Terry Booth said in a statement. Julpas said theirs was “absolutely” the first joint cannabis clinic with a foreign company in Thailand. It “will be an exceptional opportunity to establish the Audacious brand internationally,” Booth said.
