Sickle cell Anemia reportedly affects anywhere from 70,000 to 100,000 people nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The disease that kills red blood cells and can block blood flow, resulting in chronic pain. Currently, opioids are the most popular form of treatment for sickle cell pain, but UC Irvine professor Kalpna Gupta believes that vaporizing cannabis could become a safer choice.
