The Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) released an initial version of the party’s official policy positions this week, and reports show marijuana legalization is excluded. Analysts say the platform mainly aligns with presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s views on marijuana. The language very meticulously echoes recommendations released earlier this month by criminal justice reform task force that Biden and former primary rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) organized. The draft focus instead on allowing states to set their own laws decriminalizing cannabis possession instead of a national campaign. Some members of the panel are considering introducing amendments to back legalization according to Politico.
