In November, New Jersey residents approved Public Question 1 essentially deeming recreational cannabis legal for adults 21 and older beginning January 1, 2021. It’s no secret that cannabis prohibition has been disproportionately detrimental to minority populations. This has led to a strong demand, heightened by recent events such as the Black Lives Matter movement and nationwide protests against police brutality, to ensure social equity in carving out opportunities in the industry. LaunchPad is convening a panel of experts to explore how New Jersey can ensure that people of color, and those with marijuana offenses prior to legalization, be afforded an opportunity to participate, meaningfully, in this burgeoning industry.
