In the City and County of Broomfield, voters will decide in November whether to welcome the commercial marijuana industry after Broomfield City Council approved proposed local sales and excise taxes on retail marijuana. After decades of banning marijuana dispensaries and commercial growth, the City Council moved those tax proposals to the ballot by letting a moratorium on the industry expire in February. In order for such businesses to legally operate, they need to be taxed and licensed at the local level and under the Colorado Taxpayer Bill of Rights, those new taxes must first be approved by Broomfield voters.
