GOP Congresswoman Says Primary Opponent Sold ‘Hot Hemp’ And May Be ‘Illegal Drug Dealer’ At Debate

GOP Congresswoman Says Primary Opponent Sold ‘Hot Hemp’ And May Be ‘Illegal Drug Dealer’ At Debate

A Republican congresswoman from Colorado is accusing her primary election opponent of being an “illegal drug dealer” over allegations that a company he owns grew and sold hemp containing more than the allowable amount of THC. At a debate on Thursday, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) attacked state Sen. Don Coram’s (R) drug policy and criminal justice record, alleging that he may have supported legislation to lower penalties for fentanyl and remove qualified immunity for police because he had “ulterior motives” and may be a “felon” himself for “selling hot hemp.” Boebert, a controversial figure in Congress who often makes headlines for pushing political boundaries, said that there were seven lab reports showing that Coram’s hemp contained more than 0.3 percent THC per dry weight, which would be considered “hot” hemp that needs to be disposed of. Cannabis Law Report recently reported about lab tests from Coram’s hemp business, citing a complaint that some of its products contained up to 0.59 percent THC.

New York Office Of Cannabis Management Asks TikTok To Allow Educational Weed Ads

New York Office Of Cannabis Management Asks TikTok To Allow Educational Weed Ads

How do more than 1 billion active monthly users on TikTok view cannabis content According to a recent study, mostly in a positive light. By Joana Scopel The New York Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) sent a letter recently to TikTok executives asking the company “to end its ban on advertising that involves the word ‘cannabis’ as they work to promote public education in the state’s move to legalize,” reported Marijuana Moment. The legislation requires the OCM to settle educational campaigns about the legalization of adult cannabis use and its impact on public health and safety. “To fulfill our legal obligation to establish education campaigns, our office has launched Cannabis Conversations to educate New Yorkers on who can purchase cannabis, where you can legally use cannabis, and how to use cannabis, including protecting youth safely,” OCM executive director Chris Alexander wrote in the letter. The OCM assumes that this TikTok advertising ban would be related to its Industry Entry Advertising Policy, which restricts the depiction or featuring of drug-related words, symbols or images.

Jamaica focused on attracting more sustainable and innovative investments in 2022

Jamaica focused on attracting more sustainable and innovative investments in 2022

As Jamaica pursues its Vision 2030 development plan which will transform the island’s economy, the country’s government continues to develop and seek innovative investments that can accelerate economic and social growth. These investment projects will not only provide economic rewards, but will also be sustainable, create new avenues for development in communities, towns, and cities, and will lead to significant improvement in Jamaica’s overall business environment. Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Honourable Aubyn Hill, noted that the government has expended significant resources to foster an enabling environment for economic growth. “Our long term goal is for investment products and partnerships that are sustainable, that will energize our economy and drive positive change at all levels of society,” the Minister underscored. “We consider innovative investments to be all about sustainability, transformation and expansion,” explained Norman Naar, Vice President of Sales and Promotions at Jamaica’s investment and export promotions agency, JAMPRO. “These investments will help to protect our environment, meet the challenge of climate change, and create employment opportunities across the society. They will make Jamaica more competitive and strengthen connections between investors and suppliers.”

Consumers Fight Illegal Marijuana Problem When Buying From Legal Dispensary

Consumers Fight Illegal Marijuana Problem When Buying From Legal Dispensary

Two recent news stories reinforce the need for consumers to ensure they buy marijuana from a legal dispensary. Even in states where marijuana is legal, criminal elements continue to try to sell illegal marijuana outside the legal cannabis marketplace. Illegal marijuana is not grown to meet safe regulatory standards, meaning people who buy it have no real idea what they are putting into their bodies. However, enough people remain interested enough, because criminals keep getting bolder with illegal marijuana transportation and sales. Two recent stories illustrate this point. They also show that if you deal in illegal cannabis, eventually you stand a strong chance of getting caught. A Multi-State Drug Ring Busted by Feds The federal grand jury recently indicted 15 people who worked in an ambitious criminal enterprise that used “commercial-level logistics and warehousing” to transport illegal marijuana by plane and by semi-truck, according to the Department of Justice. A 36-year-old California man oversaw the enterprise, which also involved others in California, as well as Indiana and Kentucky. The DOJ charged the 15 people with conspiracy to distribute marijuana and THC-containing products and to launder the cash proceeds from selling the cannabis.

North Carolina Lawmakers Again Consider Adult-Use Cannabis Legalization

North Carolina Lawmakers Again Consider Adult-Use Cannabis Legalization

North Carolina lawmakers are again considering adult-use cannabis legalization this year after Sen. Toby Fitch, a Democrat from Wilson and Edgecombe counties, put forth Senate Bill 765. The 69-page bill, introduced May 30, aims to legalize and regulate the use, possession and sale of cannabis for adults 21 and older, according to a Port City Daily report. S.B. 765 would allow adults 21 and older to possess up to 2 ounces of cannabis and grow up to two mature and two immature plants at home for personal use, the news outlet reported. The bill would levy a civil penalty of $25 for those possessing more than 2 ounces, according to the Port City Daily, although those who possess more than a pound would still face felony charges. The legislation also outlines marketing and advertising restrictions for adult-use cannabis sales, and allows adults to share cannabis as long as no money is exchanged, the news outlet reported. Selling and distributing cannabis to minors, as well as transporting it in open containers or driving under the influence, would remain illegal under S.B. 765, according to the Port City Daily.

Delaware Rally To Overturn Marijuana Legalization Veto Set For June 7

Delaware Rally To Overturn Marijuana Legalization Veto Set For June 7

A rally in support of overturning Gov. John Carney’s veto of legalized marijuana is planned for noon, Tuesday, June 7, at Legislative Hall in Dover. Veterans and activists with DENORML and Delaware CAN kicked off a statewide campaign urging legislators to override Carney’s May 24 veto of a bill that would legalize marijuana for adults. The General Assembly had passed the bill that would legally allow adults to have up to an ounce of marijuana, and the Legislature can override Carney’s veto with three-fifths votes in each chamber. The Legislature returns from a two-week break June 7. James Baldus, a DENORML board member, served eight years in Delaware National Guard before a medical discharge in 2016. The husband and father to three kids says he was almost a VA statistic of opioid addiction. Now, he just wants to spend time with his fellow vets and use cannabis. “This should be a matter of personal choice. An ounce of marijuana should not be the cause of stigma, judgment or criminal punishment.”
