Italy Blocked Cannabis and Psilocybin Referendum
Referendums are a big thing in many countries, and for good reason. A referendum allows a population of residents to vote on what policy they prefer, instead of having the decision made by the government. So, it’s almost a slap in the face, to not allow, or cancel,...

German Conservative Politician Expresses His Support Cannabis Legalization
The break in the ranks makes Munich CSU city counsellor (and medical doctor) Hans Theiss one of the first center right politicians in the German government to express support for recreational reform. Hans Theiss has just made German history. He just came out publicly in favor of recreational cannabis reform. This does not make him unusual right now as the country moves, however slowly and haltingly, towards a new cannabis reality. What does is where he is from—both geographically and politically. Geographically, he represents constituents from a wealthy city in Bavaria, one of the country’s largest and most metropolitan cities. That said, Bayern is sometimes referred to as the “Texas” of Germany not to mention the most “rule-based” state in the country. In the words of Theiss in a recent interview, “Bavaria already pursues a relatively strong rule of law policy and pursues things that are classified as illegal perhaps a little more consistently than is the case in other federal states.”

Italy Blocked Cannabis and Psilocybin Referendum
Referendums are a big thing in many countries, and for good reason. A referendum allows a population of residents to vote on what policy they prefer, instead of having the decision made by the government. So, it’s almost a slap in the face, to not allow, or cancel, such votes. This is what just happened in Italy, where the country’s court system blocked a cannabis and psilocybin referendum, from going to the public. A high court of Italy blocked a cannabis and psilocybin referendum which the public would have voted on. Doesn’t seem very fair… We are a news publication specializing in the independent reporting of the cannabis and psychedelics industries. North Carolina Medical Marijuana Legalization Bill Heads To Senate Floor Following Committee Vote
A bill to legalize medical marijuana in North Carolina is heading to the Senate floor following a key committee vote on Wednesday. The legislation, which already passed through three panels late last year, was approved by the Senate Rules and Operations Committee in a voice vote. Sen. Bill Rabon (R), who chairs the panel, is also the sponsor of the measure, titled the NC Compassionate Care Act. “It is my opinion that no state has done it as well as we are attempting to do it,” Rabon told colleagues before the committee vote. He called the bill the “tightest, best-written” cannabis legislation in any state, saying that he studied other programs across the country to see “what they did wrong.” “It is nothing more than trying to help people with the care that they need and augment their treatments as decided upon by a patient and by a physician,” Rabon said.

New York Marijuana Regulators Approve Rules On Packaging, Advertising And Testing As State Readies For Adult-Use Sales
New York marijuana regulators on Wednesday took another step toward setting up the state for the launch of its adult-use retail market, approving a series of proposed rules for packaging, labeling, advertising and testing requirements. They also approved 16 additional adult-use cannabis cultivator applications to help ensure the market has enough product when recreational sales launch by the end of this year, raising the total to 162. Members of the Cannabis Control Board (CCB) said that the new rules will help ensure public safety and prevent underage use. For example, under one approved measure, only one brand name could be featured on a cannabis item, with no pictures or graphics, except for what regulators are requiring to be included—such as a new universal symbol that will be used to designate legal marijuana products. BREAKING: When you see this symbol on a product in stores, you’ll know it’s, tested, high-quality New York Cannabis.

Texas Activists Say They Collected Enough Signatures To Put Marijuana Decriminalization On Another City Ballot
Texas activists announced on Wednesday that they’ve collected more than enough signatures to qualify a marijuana decriminalization initiative for the local ballot in San Marcos. This is the latest development in an activist-led push that’s seen Austin voters approve the cannabis policy change in the state’s capital last month and signatures submitted to qualify similar decriminalization measures for local ballots in November in three additional cities in recent weeks. Now, advocates with the progressive group Ground Game Texas, as well as the criminal justice reform organization Mano Amiga, say they’ve collected more than 10,000 signatures to place the issue before San Marcos voters during the upcoming midterm election. The campaign already pre-verified 4,500 of those signatures, so they’re especially confident it will qualify because that exceeds the 4,182 valid signatures they need to make the cut. We now look to City Council to ensure San Martians, in a true democratic fashion, have the opportunity to approve the Reeferendum at the ballot box in November.

Study Says Cannabis Legalization Has Drastically Changed Marijuana Advertising
A recent study has concluded that the cannabis legalization wave sweeping across states and countries has triggered “drastic changes” in the way marijuana is advertised on Instagram. The research found that women are now more noticeable as “marijuana influencers,” and they drive cannabis marketing by posting about the way marijuana can be incorporated in one’s lifestyle. This study is in stark contrast to pre-legalization years in which men where the more expected face of advertising illicit marijuana. The profiles of marijuana influencers now are also authentic, while those of the previous lot of marketers were anonymous or almost identifiable as fake because of the prohibition of marijuana in the target markets. The study, whose findings were published in April, analyzed the profile pages of 60 apparently black-market sellers as well as 70 profile pages of cannabis influencers based within the United States. The researchers focused a great deal on any notable text or visual differences. The study findings indicate that Instagram is enabling marijuana influencers to flip the stereotypes about the illicit marijuana sector as being built around men.
